Free seminars, legal advice offered during ‘Law Week'

Free foreclosure and small claims and mediation seminars highlight this year's Law Week, to be held April 27 to May 1 and hosted by the Palm Beach County Bar Association.
The week of free legal advice also includes a speaker's bureau, three days of "Dial-A-Lawyer," "Shadow a Judge" and mock trials for elementary, middle and high school students.
Other legal topics to be discussed are condo and homeowners associations and elder law.
"Law Week is designed to inform the community about ways to deal with legal issues," said Maureen Martinez-Schwab, co-chair of the event.
One program lawyers will be volunteering for is called "Dial-A-Lawyer," where people can get free general legal information over the phone between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. from April 27-29. The number to call is (561) 687-2800.
The condo and homeowners' association seminar will be held April 27 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will cover new state laws impacting insurance, assessment requirements and foreclosures.
The foreclosure seminar takes place April 28 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. The small claims program is April 29 from 7 to 8:30 p.m., and includes information on how mediation can resolve disputes without hiring a lawyer and going to court.
The elder law program takes place April 30 from 2 to 4 p.m. It will cover nursing home abuse, Medicaid, real estate and probate issues.
